Synaptic Spinal Cord Injury and Neuro Rehabilitation Centre has a mission to provide a place where people with spinal cord injuries and neurological conditions can conquer limitations and maximize potential. On September 19, Synaptic partnered with Helius Medical Technologies and HealthTech Connex to further its capabilities to serve this public. Uyen Nguyen, Executive Director and Founder of Synaptic, accepted a certificate authorizing Synaptic as a PoNS Treatment™ Clinic from Helius Medical Technologies’ CEO, Phil Deschamps.
The City of Calgary and the province of Alberta rallied behind the cause, as dignitaries MLA Whitney Issik and MLA Nicholas Milliken presented Synaptic with a scroll of congratulations.
“Synaptic is incredibly excited to be among the first clinics in Canada to bring neuro innovation to its clients. This groundbreaking technology provides us with the opportunity to directly impact and improve the quality of life for so many people living with neurological conditions. It is such an honor for us to be a part of this journey,” shared Nguyen.
Held at The Commons Calgary, over fifty guests gathered to celebrate this milestone. Synaptic clients and staff, local healthcare professionals, lawyers and dignitaries attended to learn more about the science behind both the PoNS™ device and the NeuroCatch™ Platform.
Phil Deschamps explained that the PoNS™ device, “stimulates the cranial nerves that have direct connections into the brain through the brain stem, the part of the brain that controls balance, movement and coordination.”
The PoNS™ device, when paired with therapeutic activities, may improve balance and gait in those who have experienced a mild or moderate traumatic brain injury (mmTBI).
Robin Norris went on to highlight the NeuroCatch™ Platform, an innovative technology inclusive of software and hardware that captures and provides an objective physiological measurement of brain health. The two technologies can work collaboratively to pair brain assessment with treatment.
Montel Williams spoke to the crowd, and stressed the importance of creating opportunity for those suffering from an mmTBI who have lost hope. Helius looks forward to expanding PoNS Treatment™ across the country to offer Canadians who have chronic balance deficit due to mmTBI the help they need to restore their balance and gait, and in turn, their quality of life.
